So on this ATV the batteries keep dying to the point it won't start I'm on my 2nd battery this week it took me until this one to figure out that my ATV isn't charging it's on 12.75 volts when sitting in the ATV and it doesn't go up when being revved what are the chances it could be the rectifier/regulator vs the stator or CDI. I have replaced the spark plug, fuel pump (28-32PSI was the reason), cleaned out the exhaust for carbon build up (which there was none), replaced the battery, etc. and more. I umpluged black wire to handlebars eliminating all switches up there.
Or timing ?
The throttle have wires going into it? don't think rev limiter is in handlebars.

I knowwe are talking about electrical items are you sure its not a foiled plug or a fuel rich condition happening ?
Its possible somethingsgoing on in there. New plugs, old ones looked ok. Made no difference. Had flywheel off to check for damage, (loose magnets, Burnt coils) looks good. Or do what I did. sounds to me like a badly adjusted carb. You cannot paste images directly. Working on 2002 700 sportsman in shop.

Process of elimination. Some times eng kicks back when trying to start. We then disconnected the ignition switch and still no spark. One of the error codes that showed up was 636 - CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) might be faulty. I read that you gavethe cranking voltages on the first post. Most people dont know that the screw even exists. This will at least put the coils in spec. Went thru carb with fine tooth comb. RPMs at idle are around 1250-1300 but if I rev it and let the RPMs drop back down it will either stop around 1250-1300 or it will just shut off. Is was a hair to far from the flywheel and on higher rpms is started to act upcausing this problem. Hi, new here, have an 02 quest 650 xt. I would do some testing first. Sometimes get puff of smoke out of carb when clicking starter. According to the manual it says that it should be about .46v +- .003 and mine is running at .38. ATV is under warranty so I can get the parts but dealer appointments are a month out. View File He took the carb out and drilled out the brass plug for a needed that was underneath of it. The back fire and puff of smoke out of the carb all though sounds like a timing thing but I guess it cant hurt to have a look at the top end to make sure its all proper and valves are opening and closing the right way.
To test the stator you have to test the resistance between the wires. It was a while ago but should still be in the topics section of that forum. We tried disconnecting the kill switch and put a jumper wire. I have a 2018 Polaris Sportsman 570 EPS UTE, that when idling for a few minutes after being warm will just shut off. And then try to tell someone to drill out the carburetor??? timing is about 9 degrees at idle. As well as trace them to be sure theyare disconnected.

Double check that its not a separate set of wiresin the handle bar. Polaris updated that ign system in 2004 or 05. There were no signs of any issues. but make sure its that first check kill switch, key, and the throttel kill. Not a member?
Also thestator coilmaybe do an ohms test as well look at the secondary ignition coil. I would not be surprised if its the same thing.
For giggles I took it out and plugged it into another machine and read the voltage and it was showing .45v. What do you know about cdi box with built in coils? Upload or insert images from URL. While is backfiring etc separate the contacts on the throttle control and see if it clears. Book says 8. Pasted as rich text. He said it had something to do with CA laws. 6v on pulser. Does anyone have any other ideas of what to look for? if it is stuck for any reason, it acts as a kill switch. There is a tool to see if the spark is breaking down while the bikes running. Its like finding a hidden door! Engine has no power.
